What is Feltportation?

Feltportation Exhibition
Wednesday 14 August – Thursday 12 September 2013

An exhibition curated by Anita Larkin of 13 contemporary artists, who use felt in conceptual artworks, bringing an ancient craft into a modern context. Feltportation explores how felt can be used as an insulation material, allowing the transference or interference, of objects, materials, sound, warmth, and of spirit.

Felt is a material that has been used in nomadic cultures across the Asiatic steppe for centuries, and has been instrumental in the flow of people across these lands. Feltportation provides a platform for an exchange of ideas about the use of felt as a medium for contemporary artmaking, and how profoundly it can speak about our humanity, and the transference of objects, words, sound, and energy between us all.

There will be an excursion by bus to the University of Wollongong, Faculty of Creative Arts Gallery where an exhibition titled “Feltportation” will be officially opened. This exhibition is curated by Anita Larkin and is a showcase of contemporary felt works by thirteen artists,

Sheep Making

The Illawarra Feltmakers have been busy making a flock of sheep to greet you at convergence.
When you get to convergence the sheep will need names.
So start thinking of sheep names.

Thinking about your 3D felt object

3D felt object

It has been a tradition of past Convergences for all attendees to felt an item to be displayed and sold to raise money to help finance the next Convergence.

For the 12th Convergence attendees are asked to make a 3 dimensional felt item to be displayed during the week.

It can be anything within a maximum of 20cm wide x 20cm high x 20cm deep.       

You can add your name to it if you wish.

Your felt item is to be delivered to the registration area on arrival.
